Exodus 18
- Moses' father-in-law came to see Moses because of all he had heard that God had done for them.
- Why had Moses left his wife and kids with Jethro?
- Zipporah was Moses' wife's name and his two sons were named Gershom and Eliezer.
- That asked about what was going on in each other's lives and Moses told of all that God had done for the Israelites in Egypt.
- Jethro now knew God was greater than all other gods and he brought a burnt offering.
- The next day, Jethro saw Moses judge cases between the people all day. He told Moses that what he was doing was not good.
- Hadn't God told Moses to lead the people and provided Moses with the grace to care for his people?
- Jethro told Moses he should not judge the people alone because he will wear himself out, but that he should appoint honest, trust-worthy men to judge small cases and Moses himself should only hear big cases.
- Jethro told Moses to teach the people God's laws and statutes.
- Jethro said by dividing workload, Moses would be able to endure.
- Jethro went home.
Job 36
- Elihu again talks to Job about God's righteousness and character.
- God is mighty and watches over all that takes place on earth.
- God opens people's ear to instruction and turns them from iniquity.
- He lets people know when they are behaving arrogantly.
- Serving God = prosperity and a life of pleasantness.
- All a man's force and strength cannot help him in times of trouble, but God alone can.
- God cannot be do anything wrong.
- His years are unsearchable and He judges His people and provides for them.
- God controls all the forces of nature.
Luke 21
- Jesus sees a widow who gave two small coins (which was all she had) and said she had given more than all the wealthy who gave out of their adundance.
- Jesus tells of the temple's destruction and tells the disciples to be on the look out for these things to happen.
- There will be false prophets and wars that come along.
- He tells His disciples that they will be hated, persecuted, and some will die for Jesus' name, but they should not be afraid. He will give them the words when they need them.
- If they will be killed how can Jesus promise than not a hair in their head will perish?
- Jerusalem shall fall to the Gentiles too.
- They will see signs in nature and finally see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with great glory.
- What does He mean that this genration will not pass away until these things take place?
- Jesus words are forever because they will last even when heaven and earth do not.
- They should pray and be watchful for these things, not letting their hearts be weighed down.
- Jesus continued preaching each day in the temple and returning the Mount Olivet each night.
2 Corinthians 6
- Paul appeals to them not to receive Christ in vain.
- Paul is not trying to put obstacles in their path but he preaches with many opposites to them to make a point about how the world may view them; slandered but praised, dying, but alive, etc...
- Paul says they have nothing but they posess everything (through Christ).
- Paul tells them that they are limiting themselves and that they need to open their hearts.
- Paul tells them not to be yolked (married) to unbelievers
- God does not go with temple idols, just like unbleivers shouldn't be with believers.
- To be God's people they must touch no unclean thing - as stated in the OT.
