Exodus 14
- The Lord told Moses to turn back and camp by the sea and He also told Moses that Pharaoh's heart would be hardened again and the Egytians would pursue the people.
- This would happen so the Lord could get glory over Pharaoh.
- Pharaoh and the other Egyptians had second thoughts about letting the Israelites go so they set out on chariots to get them back.
- When the people saw the Egyptians they turned to fear and blamed Moses for leading them into the wilderness to die. They didn't trust God would save them.
- How could the people doubt God after the 10 plagues?
- Moses encouraged the people to stand firm and wait to see how the Lord would save them. This shows much faith on Moses' part. Moses simply told the people to be silent.
- God aksed Moses why the people were crying out to Him. He simply told Moses to stretch out his staff, part the sea, and move forward.
- The pillar of cloud went behind the Israelites so that the Egyptians would be separated from the Israelites.
- How did the cloud keep them separated?
- The sea split by a strong east wind which took all night (The parting was NOT immediate.)
- Why was the pillar of cloud at night and the pillar of fire by day in this part?
- The pillar of fire caused the Egyptians to stick in the mud (which was dry ground for the Israelites) and to panic.
- The Egyptians tried to flee because they feared the Lord.
- Moses raised his staff from the other side and the waters closed in on and killed the Egyptians.
- The people's result was to fear God, believe in God and to trust in Moses' leadership.
Job 32
- Elihu, a young man, rebukes his 3 friends for not answering Job.
- Why didn't they answer Job?
- Elihu was mad at Job for justifying himself rather than God.
- Elihu had also waited patiently for his turn to speak because he was younger than the other men.
- Elihu states that God ultimately gives wisdom not age.
- Elihu says that he is ready to speak and he will not use flattery because that is not what God has given him to say.
Luke 17
- Temptations will come but we should not be the one who brings temptations.
- We should rebuke a brother who sins against him and forgive him when he ask for it even if it's 7 times in one day.
- The apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith and He tells them that with faith they could have a tree plant itself in the sea.
- Jesus gives an example of a servant who is not praised when he does the work commanded of him. We should see ourselves as servants and be happy doing what we're commanded to do without expecting rewards or praise.
- Does God say He will reward the good and faithful servant?
- Jesus heals 10 lepers and only 1 comes back to thank him. The man who thanked Him was a Samaritan. The man's faith had made him well.
- Jesus tells the Pharisees that the kingdom of God will not come with signs.
- Doesn't it say elsewhere that the people need to know how to interpret the signs?
- Jesus reminds them of what happened in the days of Noah and Lot when the people were enjoying life just before destruction came upon them, and also what happened to Lot's wife.
- Jesus says when the Son of Man comes for them they must not look back but go with Him at once.
- What will happen if a chosen person turns back? Will they die?
- We must seek to lose our life and not preserve it.
- Jesus then says that 2 people will be in a field and 1 will be taken.
- Is Jesus saying in the last 2 verses that the person taken will go to Hell?
2 Corinthians 2
- Paul says that he didn't come back to Corinth because it would have caused them pain.
- Paul wrote to them to test them and see where they were in their faith.
- Paul says they should forgive one another so that they are not outwitted by Satan.
- Paul was upset that he couldn't find Titus.
- They are an aroma either as death to unbelivers or of life to those who would believe.
