- 8th Plague: LOCUSTS
- The Lord tells Moses that He continues to harden Pharaoh's heart so that Moses can tell his grand children of how God brought them out of Egypt.
- Pharaoh's servants pleaded with Pharaoh to let the people go because Egypt was in ruin from previous plagues.
- Pharaoh said the men could go sacrifice to the Lord but the children couldn't go.
- Moses and Aaron were driven out from Pharaoh.
- When the locusts came from the east Pharaoh again confessed his sin and asked Moses to plead with God to remove this plague, but when the Lord removed them Pharaoh refused to let the people go.
- The locusts were blown into the Red Sea with a west wind.
- 9th Plague: DARKNESS
- The land of Egypt was in complete darkness for 3 straight days.
- Pharaoh said now they could take their children, but they must leave their flocks there.
- Moses said they needed to take the animals to sacrifice once they arrived there.
- Pharaoh told Moses to leave and never come back becuase when Pharaoh saw Moses next, he would have Moses killed.
- Why was Pharaoh so willing to see Moses and Aaron during this plague scenario?
Job 28
- Job poetically points out that wisdom is more precious than anything man can dig up from the earth.
- God alone knows where wisdom is found.
- God saw wisdom, declared it, and established it.
- Can God search out wisdom if He is all knowing?
- The fear of the Lord is wisdom (as also said in many proverbs) and to turn from evil shows understanding.
Luke 13
- Jesus is aware of the local news, Pilate mizing blood of Galileans and 18 people who were killed by a falling tower. Jesus tells the people they too will perish if they do not repent.
- What does the fig tree parable mean, since it appears that the man's servant will give the fig one more year to produce fruit?
- In similar parable elsewhere, Jesus burns the fig tree immediately.
- The Pharisees again rebuke Jesus for healing a woman on the Sabbath. They try to tell people to only come to be healed on the first 6 days of the week, but Jesus rebukes them, because they take care of their animals on the Sabbath.
- Jesus comapres the kingdom of God to a planted mustard seed and to leavened bread.
- Someone asked Jesus if only a few people might be saved and Jesus replied by saying that many will come to the Lord saying we saw you in towns and He will not acknowledge them.
- Why did the Pharisees save Jesus by telling him to flee from Herod?
- Jesus says that He must continues His work, and that He, like other prophets, won't be killed outsdie of Jerusalem.
1 Corinthians 14
- Paul is instructing the Corinthains in how to use gifts of prophecy and speaking in tongues to build up the church.
- Speaking in tongues is done between a person and God and without interpretation is nothing but confusion to those hearing it.
- Paul says it is better to speak 5 words of prophecy or encouragement than 10,000 words in tongues.
- Paul's echoing theme is to use gifts in church to build up and encourage those in the church.
- Speaking in tongues also doesn't help unbelievers while prophecy can.
- Prophecy can convict an unbeliever and cause then to turn to the Lord.
- Paul encourages the Corinthians to only allow 2 or 3 people to speak in tongues if it can be interpreted and to prophesy in an orderly fashion so that it might build others up.
- Those speaking in prophecies should listen to others and allow the Spirit to build upon what is said because God is a God of order and peace.
- Why are women not permitted to speak in church?
- Paul says that the things he writes the Corinthians are from the Lord.
- Paul ends by saying that they should use their gifts, but in an orderly fashion.
