Exodus 12:20 - 13
- Moses shares the Passover infoormation with his people and they obey and worship God.
- Pharaoh was distraught when his son was killed and told Moses and Aaron to take their people and leave, but to bless him also.
- The people were afraid they would die next so they gave Israelites gifts and hurried them out of Egypt.
- 600,000 men left Egypt plus women and children.
- The people lived in Egypt 430 years (so it seems like Joseph had lived 430 years before this time).
- The Israelites were to always celebrate the night they left Egypt.
- Why does it say no foreigner shall eat of it, but then later in the same passage it says a stranger may participate if they have been circumsized?
- Why does it specify that they shouldn't break any bones?
Ch.13
- The Lord called His people to concecrate their first born to Him.
- Moses explains the 7 day Feast of Unleavened Bread and tells them to explain this ceremony to future generations.
- Moses told them that the Lord was taking them into the land promised to their fathers.
- The people are to redeem their firstborn of live stock and their first born children shall again remind the people of what God did for His people.
- God didn't take His people straight to the promised land which was close by but took them around the land of the Philistines.
- The people who left Egypt were ready for battle.
- Why aren't they trusting that God will protect them?
- They took Jospeh's bones out of Egypt too.
- The Lord led them by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. It was always before the people.
Job 30/31
-Job is saying that even the wicked are now laughing at him.
- They are now attacking Job.
- Who is the "you" refering to in v. 20 - 22?
- Job is recounting how he grieved for those afflicted when he was in high esteem.
- Why is an ostrich a bad thing to be?
Ch. 31
- Job made a covenant with his eyes not to lust after young women.
- Job continues to petition his innocense.
- Job's heart keeps his eyes in line.
- Job again asks what he has done wrong, saying if he had commited adultery he should be punished but he has done no wrong.
- Job says even how he treats slaves will be judged by God.
- Job still knows he can't face God's majesty.
- Job lists lusting after wealth as being punishable by God.
- Rejoicing in ruin of another you don't like is sin.
- Job pleads for someone to take his case before God (a forshadowing of Jesus)
Luke 15/16
- Jesus tells 3 parable with the same message about heaven; the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son.
- Jesus starts by asking who wouldn't leave 99 sheep to look for 1 lost sheep? Jesus says there will be more rejoicing over 1 man saved from sins than 99 righteous people
- A woman with 10 silver coins loses one and diligently looks for it and celbrates with friends when she locates it. Even the angels rejoice over a repentant sinner.
- The prodigal son demands his inheritance and goes and squanders it on sinful pursuits, while the other son stays with his father. The man sees his son returning and runs to him and throws him a party.
- The father ran to his son before he even repented of his sins, and kissed him. God's love for us as believers is like this.
- Does the son who stayed have a right to be upset because of the celebration for his brother who had returned?
- Is jealousy ever a good trait to have?
Ch.16
- In the parable of the dishonest manager a man learns he is going to be fired and goes to the people who owe his master money and reduce their debts.
- Why does this parable seems to promote the dishonest ways of this manager?
- Those is this world are more shrewd than those of the light.
- One who is faithful with little will be faithful with a lot.
- You cannot serve God and money.
- What is the balance between being a wise steward of your money and hoarding it?
- What doies Jesus mean by the Law and the Prophet were until John?
- Is it wrong to remarry?
- There was a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus and they both died.
- Lazarus went to heaven and the rich man begged Lazarus to give him a drink.
- There is no crossing over from heaven to hell or vis versa after death.
- The rich man begs Abraham to tell his brothers not to waste their time on earth but Abraham says that they should listen to the Law and Prophets.
1 Corinthians 16
- Paul instructs the Corinthians to set aside some goods for when he comes for him to take back to jerusalem.
- Paul is in Ephesus and wants to spend extended time with the Corinthians.
- Paul tells them to greet Timothy.
- Paul lets them know that Appolos cannot go to them yet, but that they should stand firm in their faith.
- Paul wrote this letter with his own hand.
2 Corinthians 1
- Paul starts off by reminding the Corinthians that God will comfort them so that they may comfort others.
- Comfort will accompany suffering.
- What burdened Paul beyond his strength?
- This overwhelming burden showed Paul of his need for God.
- Paul is saying he can't wait until they can meet in heaven and boast of their sufferings for the gospel together.
- All promises of God find their "yes" in Jesus.
- What does Paul mean that he spared them by not coming to them again?
- What does it mean when it says angles carried Lazarus to Abraham's side?
