leviticus 21 - Ecclesiastes 6 – acts 19 – 1 Timothy 6

Leviticus 21
- The priests were not supposed to be near the dead except close family
- The priests were not suppose to marry.
- They were not to shave their heads or beards.
- They shouldn't marry a prostitute or a divorced woman.
- How could a priest have a daughter if he wasn't supposed to get married?
- Did the main priest have a pony tail?
- The main priest wasn't even to go near his dead family members nor tear his clothes.
- He shall take a young wife, but he is not to leave the sanctuary.
- What did he do when they traveled?
- Priests cannot serve if they have a blemish, lame, blind, hunchback, or dwarf, and itching disease or crushed testicles.
- He can eat of the holy bread but he cannot go into the alter.

Ecclesiastes 6
- Solomon says it's an evil that God gives a man wealth but he cannot enjoy it.
- Man toils to eat, but hunger is never satisfied.
- The more words the more vanity in a man.
- Solomon struggles with the fact that life is short and fleeting. He's not sure of what will come next.

Acts 19
- Appolos was in Corinth and Paul went to Ephesus.
- How could the people be believers, but not have the Holy Spirit?
- They said they had been baptized in John's name and when Paul baptized them in Jesus' name they received the Holy Spirit.
- He spoke for 2 years and 3 months there.
- Paul spoke to a focused group who wanted to hear the gospel after the first 3 months.
- People were being miracuously healed by Paul even by touching his handcercheif.
- The Jewish priests there tried to cast out demons in Jesus' name but the demons asked who they were and the demon possessed person beat them.
- This struck fear into the people and they sold their magic books and burned them and turned to Jesus.
- Paul wanted to go back to Jerusalem and then to Rome.
- Demetrius made idols of Artemus and he told the other idol makers that Paul's preachings would put them out of business.
- The people were stirred up and said, "Great is Artemus" and Paul's friends were brought before the people.
- Alexander, the ruler there, said to the crowd to bring charges against these men who had not said anything blasphemous about Artemus.
- Alexander prompted them to bring charges in the right way so they wouldn't be charged with rioting.
- The crowd dispersed.

1 Timothy 6
- Paul tells Timothy to tell slaves to serve their masters well, especially if they too are believers.
- Beware of those who in their own pride preach a different gospel than the truth.
- This produces quarreling and strife and controversy.
- There is great gain in godliness with contentment.
- Wanting to be rich puts a snare in your path and we cannot take anything with us when we die.
- Money is the root of all kinds of evil and leads many astray.
- It's interesting that Paul tell Timothy to fight the good fight with gentleness and love.
- Timothy is to keep the gospel free from reproach.
- Paul reminds him how great the eternal God is whom they both labor for.
- Timothy is to tell even the rich to put their hope in God and NOT in their riches.
