leviticus 19 - Ecclesiastes 4 – acts 17 – 1 Timothy 4

Leviticus 19
- God calls us to be holy because He is holy.
- We are to revere our parents and keep the Sabbath
- Not to eat peace offering after third day.
- The people weren't supposed to harvest all of their crops, but should leave the outer edges for the poor.
- After each "love you neighbor as yourself command" God states He is the Lord their God.
- Do not steal from your neighbor or bear false witness.
- Do not hate or hold a grudge against your neighbor.
- The people weren't supposed to cross breed plants or animals.
- Why is committing adultery with an unfree slave not punishable by death?
- When plating new crops: 3 years unclean, 4th year it is the Lord's, after that people may eat it.
- You shouldn't tattoo yourself.
- God commands them to treat foreigners well.

Ecclesiastes 4
- Solomon points out that the oppressed and and the oppressor had no one to comfort them.
- Better a handful of quietness than 2 hands full of toil
- This portion builds upon the "more the merrier" logic.
- If there are two people there is help when you stumble but it is not good to be alone.
- Better to be poor and wise than a rich foolish king.

Acts 17
- Paul and Silas proclaimed the gospel in Thessolanica
- Many were converted, but the Jews caused a riot.
- Jason, a Christian there, paid money to calm the crowd.
- What did it mean that the Jews in Berea were more noble?
- The Jews in Thessolonica sent men to stir up crowd in Berea too.
- Paul left but Timothy and Silas stayed there.
- Paul preached in Athens and the people there didn't know how to take his gospel teachings.
- Paul knew they were religious because of the monuments they had in Athens.
- Paul quoted some of their own writers.
- Some mocked the gospel when they heard it while others wanted to hear it again. Among the new believers were Dionysius the Areopagite.

1 Timothy 4
- Some will depart faith and add new rules like what not to eat.
- Everything God created is good and should be prayed about with thanksgiving.
- Don't worry about silly myths or stories but strive for godliness.
- Holiness is to be sought above all things.
- Paul tells Timothy to not worry about being to young but be a Christian witness in all he says and does.
- Someone had prophesied that Timothy would be a great leader in the church.
- Keep a close watch on yourself in order to save yourself and others.
- Could Timothy lose his salvation?
