Numbers 4 - Song of Solomon 4 – Romans 1 – Hebrews 2

Numbers 4
- Kohath was one of Levi's sons
- Those 30-50 are to watch over the "holy things"
- They shall put blue goatskis over the holy things
- The sons of Kohath with the holy things will follow Aaron and the sanctuary when they set out.
- How do they carry these things but not touch them?
- Eleazar,son of Aaron will be in charge of the oil and fragrance.
- The sons of Gershon shall carry poles and curtains around the tabernacle.
- The sons of Merari will carry the poles, pegs, pillars and bases of The Tent of Meeting
- There were 2,757 Kohahites
- There were 2,630 Gershonites.
- There were 3,200 Merarites.
- The total number of men bearing the burden of carrying all of the holy things and tents was 8,580.

Song of Solomon 4
- He is commenting his bride by comparing her to things he sees and admires in nature.
- He comments that she has all of her teeth (they all are paired)
- He longs to go to her all day long.
- He says she has no flaws.
- One look from her captivates him.
- Her lipd drip honey - kisses are sweet
- He likes the way she smells also.
- She responds simply by saying let him come to her garden.

Romans 1
- Paul starts off by introducing himself and reminding the Roamsn that he was called by God's Son who was descended from David.
- Paul longs to go to Rome to strengthen them.
- The righteous live by faith.
- The wrath of God is against all unrighteousness.
- God's invisible attributes are eternal power, divine nature
- Everyone can see God in His creation so no one has an excuse not to believe.
- Even those who knew God refused to give thanks to Him.
- God gave them over to their lusts to worship the created NOT the Creator.
- One of these lusts was homosexual relations.
- Other lusts were: "They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless"
- They do these evils and promote them even though they know the penalty for these sins

Hebrews 2
- If you don't pay attention to your faith you will drift away.
- The writer says that if angels proclaimed it, people preach it, and God did miracles through the Holy Spirit for it, how can we deny the work of salvation?
- Why does God care about man when we are lower than angels?
- Everything is subject to HIm and He made Himself low in Jesus.
- The sanctifier and the sanctified are all from one source.
- He suffered for us.
- The writer of Hebrews quotes many verses in his letter.
- Devil has power of death.
- Christ did all things as a man to destroy the power of death.
- Christ died for man not for angels.
- Because He was tempted He can help those who are tempted.

Numbers 3 - Song of Solomon 3 – acts 28 – Hebrews 1

Numbers 3
- Aaron's sons: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar
- Nadab and Abuhu were killed because of unauthorized fire.
- God said he is taking the Levites as his own instead of the firstborn of everyone.
- Clans of sons of Levi
- Clan of Gershon - His sons were Libni and Shimei 7,500 - they stayed with Eliasaph on the west.
- Clan of Kohath - His sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, Uzziel - 8,600 - they stayed on the south side with Elizaphan guarding the sanctuary.
- Clan of Merari - His sons wereMahli and Mushi - 6,200 - stayed with Zuriel on the north sidethey were to take care of pillars, bases, and pegs.
- Moses and Aron stayed on the east side to prtect the people.
- The firstborn males numbered 22,273
- The were 273 more firstborn than there were Levites, so those 273 had to redeem themselves by paying 5 shekels.
- Moses collected 1,375 shekels

Song of Solomon 3
- His kisses are better than wine.
- The "others" seem to love her too.
- Again what does the pasturing of the flock mean? Does she just want to know where to find him?
- He tells her to follow his path and he likes that she wears jewelry.
- The "others" are going to make her jewelry of gold.
- She talks about what she wants to do when they are close.
- They both delight in each others beauty.
- Why does she mention the couch color?

Acts 28
- Paul crash landed on Malta
- The natives were very kind and paul was bit by a viper that was in the burning wood.
- He suffered no ill effects.
- Paul healed Publisus' father and then everyone brought their sick to be healed.
- They gave Paul lots of supplies for the rest of his trip.
- They got to Rome 3 months later and Paul stayed in a guarded house by himself.
- Paul talked with Roman Jews and they said they heard nothing bad against Paul but they were curious about the Christianity sect.
- Some belived and others didn't and Paul remembered Isaiah's words when he said that they will hear but not understand.
- He lived there for 2 years at his own expense.

Hebrews 1
- Unknown author
- says that God used to speak by prophets now has spoken through His Son/
- The author says God never appointed angels to be worshipped.
- God has annoited and lifted up His Son to be praised.
- The Lord laid the foundations of the earth and will be there in the last days.
- Angels do not sit at God's right hand either.
- Angels were created as messengers and servants for those who may receive salvation.

Numbers 2 - Song of Solomon 2 – acts 27 – Philemon 1

Numbers 2
- What does it mean to camp by your own standards?
- Leaders of each tribe on the east side of camp
1) Camp of Judah - Nahshon
2) Camp of Issachar - Nethanel
3) Camp of Zebulun - Eliab
- There were 186,400 living on the East Side of camp and always marched out first.

- Leaders on the south side of camp
1) Camp of Reuben - Elizur
2) Camp of Simeon - Shelumiel
3) Camp of Gad - Eliasaph
- 151,450 living on south side of camp and they always set out 2nd.

- The camp of the Levites would always set out after south side camps.

- Leaders on the west side of camp
1) Camp of Ephraim - Elishama
2) Camp of Manasseh - Gamaliel
3) Camp of Benjamin - Abidan
- 108,100 living on west side of camp

- Leaders of the north side camps
1) Camp of Dan - Ahiezer
2) Camp of Asher - Pagiel
3) Camp of Naphtali - Ahira
- 157,600 living on the North side and always set out last

-603,550 people total (not including Levites)

- Why is Joseph's tribe not listed but Gad and Mannassah are even though they were not of the originally 12 tribes of Israel?

Song of Solomon 2
- She stands out to him among all the other women.
- His banner over her is love
- She is love sick and only wants him.
- There is an exclamation mark where she talks about him enbracing her.
- She tells the other women not to stir up love before the proper time.
- He comes to her and tells her to come with him.
- She longs to see his face and hear his voice.
- What are the "little foxes" that are ruining their time?
- What does she want when she tells him to pasture his flock and run to the mountains?

Acts 27
- Julius was the centurion in charge of delivering paul and he treated Paul kindly.
- It was late in the season past the Day of Atonement and the winds were not favorable for sailing to Italy.
- Paul told them not to sail any further, but the pilot decided to winter over on Crete.
- A severe storm struck for many days and they began throwing supplies overboard to save the ship.
- Paul told them that an angel had told him the ship would be lost but no one would die.
- It was the 14th night crossing the Adriatic Sea.
- When they got near land some men tried to talk the life boat, but paul said only those who stayed on the ship would live so they cut the ropes to the boats.
- In the midst of all this Paul broke bread, gave thanks to God, and had the men eat.
- There were 276 men on the boat.
- The soldiers wanted to kill the prisoners before leaving the ship but the centurion had their lives (Paul's included) spared and everyone made it to shore safely.

Philemon 1
- Timothy and Paul greet Philemon who hold church in his house.
- Paul thanks the Lord for Philemon and for his witness to others and encouragement to the saints
- Paul says he could demand Philemon but he is appealing to him on behalf of Onesimus.
- Paul was going to keep him with himself, but didn't want to do that without Philemon's approval.
- Paul is saying that Onesimus is now not a slave but a brother in Christ now he is useful to God.
- Paul asks Philemon to receive back Onesimus as he would receive Paul himself.
- Paul says if Onesimus owes Philemon anything to charge it to Paul's account.
- Why does Paul seem to lay a guilt trip on Philemon for leading him to the gospel?
- Paul wrote this letter himself.
- Paul also says to prepare a guest room for him as he is praying to visit soon.
- Epaphras, Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke also sends greetings to Philemon.
- Paul seems to ask him to free Onesimus by making him feel guilty. Is this right to do?

Numbers 1 - Song of Solomon 1 – acts 26 – Titus 3

Numbers 1
- God told Moses to take a census of all men over 20 who could go to battle.
- Took place on first day of second month
- Registered by clan and father's house.
- Tribe of Reuben = 46,500
- Tribe of Simeon = 59,300
- Tribe of Gad = 45,650
- Tribe of Judah = 74,600
- Tribe of Issachar = 54,400
- Tribe of Zebulun = 57,400
- Tribe of Joseph = 40,500
- Tribe of Manassah = 32,200
- Tribe of Benjamin = 35,400
- Tribe of Dan = 62,700
- Tribe of Asher = 41,500
- Tribe of Naphtali = 53,400
- Total men over 20 = 603,550
- The Levites were not listed in this census because they were to manage the tabernacle not go to war.
- The Levites were to camp between the tabernacle and the other camps of the people.

Song of Solomon
- It is broken into speaking parts similar to a play
- She speaks of longing to kiss him
- The kisses are compared to wine.
- She is very dark (Is she tan or African?)
- It sounds like she is very tan because her brothers made her work in the fields.
- What is she referring to when she's talking about flocks?
- Solomon is complementing his bride and telling her to come close.
- The sexual metaphors continue to show they want to be close.
- Solomon compares her eyes to doves.
- Why does she refer to the color of their couch?

Acts 26
- Paul is happy to speak before King Agrippa who knows Jews laws and customs.
- Paul said he was being charged for saying God raise Jesus from the dead. He asks why this ability of God would surprise them.
- He then says how he persecuted the Christians.
- What does "kick against the goads" mean?
- Paul said Jesus told him to go preach to the Gentiles.
- Paul says he is on trial for preaching the very things Moses said would happen.
- Festus thought Paul was out of his mind.
- Agrippa was surprised Paul would try to convert him to be a Christian.
- Paul could have been set free if he didn't appeal to Caesar.

Titus 3
- Be submissive to rulers.
- Speak evil of no one and avoid quarreling
- Show perfect courtesy to all people.
- Paul reminds Titus of what we used to be before conversion.
- We are saved by Christ's mercy, not our own works.
- We have received regeneration and cleansing by Holy Spirit.
- By this we are heirs of eternal life.
- Do good works as an overflow of what you have received.
- Avoid foolish controversies and debates.
- Warn a person stirring people up once, then twice, then have nothing to do with them.
- Paul is sending Artemas or Tychicus to Titus and wants Titus to come visit him in Nicopolis where he is spending the winter.
- Titus is to send Zenus and Apollos out.

leviticus 27 - Ecclesiastes 12 – acts 25 – Titus 2

Leviticus 27
- The valuation of a 20 - 60 year old male is 50 shekels
- The valuation of a female is 30 shekels
- Male 5 - 20 the valuation is 20 shekels, female 10 shekels
- Male 0 - 5 is worth 5 shekels and a female is worth 3 shekels
- Male over sixty is 15 shekels and female is 10 shekels
- How and why would someone vow an unclean animal?
- If someone wants to redeem their house or animal they have to add a fifth to the value.
- If a man wanted to dedicate his field he has to calculate the value of it until the next jubilee, when he can redeem it.
- Nothing devoted to the Lord shall be sold or redeemed. This is a crime punishable by death.
- Every 10th animal born to a man shall be holy to the Lord whether good or bad.
- Doesn't God usually onlt want the animals "without blemish"?

Ecclesiastes 12
- Solomon tells the young people to thank God for what they have when they're young.
- Solomon is dreading death when his spirit goes back to its Maker.
- When in his life did Solomon write the proverbs and why is this book so dreary?
- Man's ultimate duty is to fear God and keep His commands.
- Solomon warns that God will judge every deed done whether good or evil.

Acts 25
- The Jews still wanted to kill Paul 3 years later
- Festus told them to go to Caesarea with him and see if there was anything to accuse Paul of.
- Paul told Festus that he had done nothing wrong and if he had he did not fear death.
- Paul appealed to Caesar
- King Agrippa stopped by and Festus told him all that was taking place with Paul. His dispute with the Jews was whether or not Jesus was alive. Agrippa wanted to hear from Paul.
- Festus wanted Agrippa to question Paul so that he had some thing against Paul before sending him to Caesar.

Titus 2
- Paul tells Titus to teach sound doctrine
- Older men should be self controled, faithful, loving, and steadfast.
- Older women are not to slander, but be reverant, train young women, love husbands and children, self controlled, kind, submissive to husband which reflects Christ to others.
- Younger men should be self controlled.
- Titus is to live by example of good works, integrity, sound blameless speech.
- By watching what you say noone will have anything wrong to accuse you of which is to their shame.
- Slaves are to listen to their masters, not stealing, well pleasing, not arguementative, showing good faith as to please the Lord.
- Grace of God helps us battle ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self controlled godly lives.
- We are waiting on the hope of Christ's return.
- Christians should be zealous for good works.
- Paul tells Titus to declare these things and let noone disagree with you.
- Seld Control is mentioned 4 times for every age and gender group.

leviticus 26 - Ecclesiastes 11 – acts 24 – 2 Timothy 5

Leviticus 26
- The people shall not make idols to bow down to.
- God promises good growing seasons, peace in the lands, success in battles, no wild beasts will attack them, and they shall have many children if they keep their covenants with God.
- Then God lists the punishments for not obey His commands which include: panic, disease, heart ache, the land will not grow crops, and enemies conquering them.
- If they still won't listen after this God will discipline them 7 fold.
- God says that He WILL break their pride.
- God himself will strike them down in such a way that their enemies will be appalled at what happens to them if they still will not obey.
- If they do not let the land rest during times of Sabbath God will strike them down so that the land will rest.
- If the people humbly turn from their sins, God will remember His covenant with them.
- The people will have to make amends for the sins they have commited.
- God will never wipe them out totally because He wants to be their God.

Ecclesiastes 11
- Solomon seems to say be generous today because tomorrow is a mystery.
- God is as mysterious as how life comes into a child in the womb.
- Solomon says to rejoice in the days you have to see all that God has created because death is for eternity which he describes as vanity.
- Solomon tells the youth to be joyful and enjoy life but to always remember God will judge them for what they do.

Acts 24
- The Jews came down to accuse Paul after 5 days and Tertullus began to accuse Paul.
- Paul was accused of starting riot with a sect called the Nazarenes.
- Paul says that he didn't stir up anyone but also believes what the Jews do about the Law and about the resurrection.
- Paul said the Jews from Asia had accused him.
- The only "wrong" that he may have done in the temple was to say he was being accused because of the Resurrection.
- Felix knew about "the Way" and had Paul kept under guard but he had some freedoms.
- Felix and his wife often summoned Paul to speak with him and Felix hoped for a bribe.
- After 2 years Porcius Festus replaced Felix and kept paul in custody to make the Jews happy.

Titus 1
- Paul gives his greetings to Titus and reminds Titus of his calling to preach the gospel.
- Paul calls Titus his "true child in the faith"
- Paul left Titus in Crete to appoint elders and build the faith there.
- Elders should be above reproach, have one wife, and children who obey.
- Overseers (bishops)should must also be above reproach, not quick to anger, not drunk, or greedy but they must be hospitable, disciplined, and self controlled. He must also know the Word and be able to apply it to different situations.
- Paul warns Titus against empty talkers and deceivers.
- A Ctretan prophet once called his own people lazy, liars, and evil beasts which Paul says is true.
- Paul tells Titus to rebuke them sharply so that they may be of sound faith.
- Some people want to leave the Truth and follow Jewish laws and myths.
- People should not say they know God but do the opposite in their actions.
- This is detestable.

leviticus 25 - Ecclesiastes 10 – acts 23 – 2 Timothy 4

Leviticus 25
- On top of the regular Sunday day of rest, the Israelites were commanded to count the 7th year as a Sabbath where in they didn't prune or grow anything, letting the land rest.
- Why does it say that you shall not harvest food, but that the land shall provide food for you? Should you eat what grows or not?
- Every 49 years there shall be a year of jubilee on the 10th day of the 7th month The 50th year isa year of rest and celebration
- Everyone was to return to their property.
God says that they shall harvest enough the 6th year to last them 3 years, so they should trust Him.
- In the Year of Jubilee all sold property shall be returned to its original owner.
- Weren't these people nomadic, so wouldn't their land change?
- House sold in the city can be reclaimed for a year and won't be given back in the Year of Jubilee but all house outside the wall shall be returned to original owner.
- They were called to house and care for the poor among them.
- Poor people who sold themselves into slavery shall be treated well and gain their freedom in the Year of Jubilee.
- The Jews were not allowed to make slaves of their brothers, but slavery of other people was fine.
- God repeatedly follows up his rules with, " I am the Lord your God."

Ecclesiastes 10
- A little folly outweighs wisdom
- Calmness lays great offenses to rest.
- There are many dangers in many jobs.
- Wisdom helps one succeed.
- Many words = foolishness
- Why does Solomon say money answers everything?
- Solomon warns against having or saying evil things about the ruler.

Acts 23
- Did Paul admit to sinning against cursing the high priest?
- Paul said he was a Pharisee who was on trial because he believed in the Resurrection. He did this to cause a quarrel between the Pharisees and Sadduccees.
- Sadducee's do not believe in the resurrection, angels, or spirits.
- The Pharisees wanted Paul freed.
- Did Jesus really appear to Paul or was it an angel?
- The Lord told Paul he must go testify in Rome.
- 40 Jewish leaders made an oath not to eat or drink until Paul was killed.
- Paul's nephew told the tribune of the Jew's plot to kill Paul the next day.
- The tribune sent Paul with a military escort to Felix by night.
- Claudius Lysias was the ruler of Jerusalem who sent Paul to Felix.
- Claudius told Felix what had happened and that he found no crime worthy of death committed by Paul but simply in fighting about Jewish law.
- Paul was originally from Cilicia.
- Felix was waiting until Paul's accusers came

2 Timothy 4
- Paul tells Timothy to preach the Word and to reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
- People will seek out easier, more pleasing forms of religion.
- Paul tells Timothy to preach the Truth faithfully and endure suffering.
- Paul is saying his time is coming to a close but that he has run the good race.
- Paul is looking forward to his reward in heaven and rejoices also about the rewards of ALL who have believed in Christ.
- Luke is the only one with Paul.
- He tells Timothy to bring Mark with him on his visit.
- Paul asks for some of his belongings to be brought especially the parchments.
- Alexander the coppersmith did Paul wrong and he warns Timothy about interacting with him.
- Paul says that everyone abandoned him except God, but he doesn't hold it against them.
- Paul is grateful that God has strengthened him through every trial.
- How can all those people send Timothy greetings if only Luke is with him?
- Paul ends by saying grace be with you (but the "you" is plural)
